My grandmother was Amelie Pauline Jeanne van Hemelryck, who was born in Belgium (Brussels we think) on 1st January 1881. She had an older brother Pierre born approximately 20 years earlier. Their mother was Jeanne de Waal, and M. van Hemelryck (my great-grandfather) died when Amelie was still a child. Her mother later remarried a M. van Dyck. Pierre married Louise (surname unknown) and they had one child, Gabrielle who went on to marry Jules Holbrechts, a pilot during WW1 who was later a director of Sabena airlines. Pierre was an artist, and lived at some point in Antwerp where he and later his widow an an art supplies shop. I believe he also went away to sea as a young man.
Amelie married William Matthews in 1913 and lived for the rest of her life in England. They had three children, Paul (b 1914), Joan (my mother, born 1916) and George, 1919. Amelie's mother Jeanne, survived until the end of WW2, living with Gabrielle and Jules (who were part of the chain of safe houses sheltering RAF pilots).
So there are no direct descendants of this branch still carrying the name van Hemelryck. I'd be interested to know if anyone has information about earlier generations - unfortunately I know nothing more about Amelies father - no d.o.b or forename. I assume he must have married Jeanne around 1860-1864 as Pierre was born sometime before 1865
