Vare family
Posted by C.V. <cvare@attbi.com> on Mon, 12 Aug 2002, in response to Vare family, posted by Victoria Vonn-Belavich on Fri, 31 Aug 2001
Three brothers -- William, George, and Edwin, were in Philadelphia politics at the turn of the century. William was the most notorious (he was unseated as U.S. senator), and wrote "My Forty Years in Politics" (pub. 1933). Their grandfather was John Vare from England(supposedly Isle of Jersey, but no one has been able to uncover records there)who immigrated to America in 1818. Edwin was my great-grandfather--he had 6 children, including Abigail Stites Vare (married to Ralph Seltzer and later to Victor Sartorelli). Was this your grandmother?Responses
