Gordon Thompson

I am looking for the parents of Gordon Thompson, (first name may be Howard) born Sept. 6,1837 somewhere in Va. He died May 9,1964 at the Battle of Cloyds Mt. during the civil war.He married Louisa J Bailey and fathered 5 children before his death,He enlisted in the Confederate army in Princeton, WV on July 4, 1861 and was in the 60th Infantry Regiment, Co. H. They were married in approx 1850?.
Va or WV. I know he had a brother but don't know brothers name. I have a letter writen by him to his brother. Does ANYONE know where this man was born? All I know is Va. His children told that to everyone when asked. His children were brought up in Mercer Co, WV/Va. I know families didn't move too far back then from home and also that boundaries moved, but this man seems to have come fron space or something. If it wasn't for him having a brother, that's exactly what I would think. His children were...MaryJane b 12-14-1851, Almeda Francis b. 12-24-1854, Jurietta Cassandra b2-22-1856, James Alexander b. 12-1-1857, and Louisa Estas b. 4-19-1861. Please if anyone has any clues to Gordon Thompsons family I sure would appreciate knowing. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to be.
