Hugh Toland escaped Eire 1803

Posted by Mailyn Tate <marilynmtate@yahoo.com> on Sun, 02 Aug 2009

I am looking for descendants of Hugh Toland who escaped from Eire (Ireland) in 1803 after taking part in Robert Emmet's 1803 failed Rebellion against the British in Dublin. His family probably settled in SC. He is the ancector of Justice Hugo L. Black and John T. Harlan (my gg. grandfather). They were born in Clay Co. AL. Their mothers were Toland sisters. The Tolands are descended from Irish High Kings and other royalty supposedly. I am trying to prove that link. John T. Harlan is also related to John Marshall Harlan who was on the Supreme Court.
