Posted by Ken Hughey <Hughey01@msn.com> on Fri, 09 Aug 2002
I am looking for information about JohnThomas, Sr. And his wife Sarah (britt) Thomas. They came to Alabama in about 1830. The lived in Montgomery, Dallas, Lowndes, & Crenshaw Counties before finally settling in Pike County, Alabama. John Thomas, Sr. was born in Bertie County, NC in 1777 and died in Pike County in 1849. Sarah was also born in Bertie County, NC in 1783 and died in Pike County in 1851. They were married in Bertie Co., NC in 1800John & Sarah had several children. Some of the children's names were: William (Butler County, Al), Theophilus, Cornelius, Isaac J., James H., Jemima, John, Jr., Sarah, & Chatherine.
Theophilus was said to have moved to Scott County, Ms. Cornelius is said to have relocated to Neshoba County, Ms. and William is said to have been living in Butler County, Al. James Henry Thomas married Nancy Jane Bruce in 1854 in Clarke County, Alabama.
Research of this Thomas family has discovered no less than eight Thomas men who served as preachers or Elders in The primitive Baptist Church. James Henry Thomas' oldest son, John Samuel Thomas married Tabitha Missouri Langley of Coffee County, Alabama.
I would appreciate it very much if someone out there can shed light on this Thomas family. Even the smallest bit of info would be well received. Thank you for your kindness.
