Leonard Vitalis Stickler or Vitalis Leonard Stickler, was my Grandfather. We have had a very hard time finding any information on him before he married my grandmother, Lula May Thompson on October 19, 1897 in Malver, Hot Springs C., AR. They had three children, my father Velmar Edward born on July 21, 1901 and died on July 2, 1962, James Hugh on May 12, 1902, died on March 4, 1975, and Mattie Irene on September 20, 1905, we do not know if she is alive or dead, her first marriage was to Hugh Campbell. All of the stickler children were born around Malvern, Hot Springs Co., AR. On the census Leonard put down that he and his parents? were born in MO, but he had told my father that he had ran away from home, never told him who his parents were, only that the family came from Germany and originaly settled in Germantown, PA. If anyone out there has any information are if you are one of my cousins please e-mail me at ransjer@aol.com, Hope to hear from you, Linda Carol Stickler

I believe your Vitales lived in the household of my gr grandparents in MO in the 1880 census & that he was the younger brother of my great grandmother, Mary M. Stickler before she married my grandfather Conrad Scherf/Schaerf/ Schearf. Her parents were Leonhard & Anna B Stickler from Bollinger county in MO. I can find no further info on any of them. The courthouse in Bollinger County in MO. burned in 1866 & again in 1884. The name of Vitales had been misspelled as Fitales & I have found Leonhard spelled as Leonard also. He was 17 yrs of age in this census. I don't know if he had run away from parent's home to his sister's (Mary Stickler Scherf) or later run away from that home, due to the death of Mary. My great grandfather Conrad married again in 1883 so we assume sometime between the 1880 census & 1883 that Mary Stickler Scherf (spelling in that census) died. If you wish to contact me do so at this e-mail address. Winnie Schearf Seabaugh
