Dutch STIGNER family

Posted by Jon Stigner <jonathanstigner@yahoo.co.uk> on Mon, 19 Dec 2005, in response to i have the name, posted by gene stigner on Sun, 18 Dec 2005

Hi Gene, Thank you for your reply. To my knowledge there are three different Stigner family's. One is Swedish, with some living in the USA, one is German from Saxony and I don't know yet if any live in the USA, and my family which started out as STECKINGER from the Alsace (a German speaking area of modern France), they arrive in Swalmen in Holland in the mid 1700's where the name changed to STIGNER. There is a definite possibility that some of our ancestors went to the USA, and that is something I am working on now.
It would be very helpful if you can find out from other members of your family when your ancestors arrived in the USA, what towns they lived in there, and from what country they came from ... with that information, we can probably be of some help to each other,
All the best, and thanks again,
Jon Stigner
