Mary Botto work stunning
Posted by Tom <tcmilligan@rogers.com> on Sat, 08 Aug 2009, in response to Mary Botto, posted by Danyelle Smith on Sun, 26 Sep 2004
I came across a Mary Botto 3' x 2' framed masterpiece at an antique show here in Toronto. Never heard of her before, but the painting is absolutely beautiful; of a Dutch/Belgian seaside set in the late 1800's with a windmill in the background.
I enjoy buying all of sorts of art, but her technique is phenomenal and I caught myself staring at it for a good 2-3 minutes. I was about to walk away because the painting looks like it should be about $3,000.00+, but for fun I went to check the tag and it priced $195.00 ???? I was thinking it must be a mistake, and that it should read $1,950.00 so I went to ask the vendor how much and was able to squabble her down to $150.00
Now remember, art is worth only as much as someone is willing to pay. And to me $150.00 is a steal! It is now hanging in our guestroom and has made that room so welcoming.
I came on here to find out more about her as I am really impressed with her work, but unfortunately there is NOTHING on the internet about this artist. Such as shame because her work is something special and should be admired by many.
My prediction: 50 years from now, this artist will be renowned. stock up now! This is what always happens when artists sadly pass away.
