Isle of Man

Posted by Richard Calf <richard.calf2@gmail.com> on Fri, 11 Jan 2008, in response to find my surname origination, posted by SPYRIDOULA AVRILIONI on Mon, 12 Dec 2005

I'm trying to find out the origin of my surname, my surname is
Calf, so I'm looking online, I heard vaguely that it might somehow go back to Isle on Man, more specifically The Calf of Man, and even smaller island very close and South West of Isle of Man.

The word Calf derives from the Scandinavian Kalfr and means a small island lying near a larger one. I'm just wondering if this was used as a surname, hence my surname.
