Enoch simmons

Posted by Thelma Waldroup <tjwaldroup@aol.com> on Wed, 31 Mar 2010, in response to Enoch Simmons, posted by George Gilbert on Fri, 10 Jun 2005

Enoch was my gr,gr grandfather. He and Abigail are buried in Chaney's Chapel cemetary in Dutton Ala. I put flowers on their graves every year. I have been told that his mother was Cherokee and he and his brother hid her so she would not have to go on the Trail of Tears. He was a scout and an enterperer on the Trail of Tears and had a Cherokee wife and baby. His wife died and he came back to Ala and met Abigail Sloan and they were married. and had my great grandmother, Louisa . I do not know what happened to the Cherokee baby. I remember my mother talking about an Indian aunt that had black hair that touched the floor when she sat in a chair. I never thought to ask questions about her.
