Finding my entire maternal side of my family

Posted by Deborah Peterson <Deb7L9@AOL.com> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009, in response to I want to help others, posted by Gavin on Wed, 11 Feb 2009

I am 54 years old and in 1960 my parents were divorced. I moved from California with my dad back to where he was raised in Illinois. I never saw my mother again or any of her family. She already had a daughter from a previous marriage and through the years I heard rumors of more children from subsequent marriages. Alcoholism was a major factor in the demise of my parents' marriage, with my mother having a serious alcohol problem. However, after my father left her and brought me to his parents to raise, he also became an alcoholic and an absentee parent. He recently died and I did not even attend his funeral. My own children never knew him. I still hold bitterness about the parents I never had but most of all I wish I could find my siblings and close a very big hole in my heart. I still keep my half sisters picture framed next to my paternal grandmother who raised me. The thought of that sister and possibly other siblings who I may have brings a light into a past childhood that was filled with very painful memories and hope for a reunion that would answer a lot of questions for me.
