You would have to get birth records from your relatives. They are probably from Nova Scotia. If you are American you would only have status in Canada but if you are not a citizen it might be useless. The Miq Maq may have lived in Maine also I don't know. It is unlikely your gggrandad was a chief. That may be romanticized. It doesn't matter anyway.
You could request info from the tribe if you get the proper names. Call First Nation services in Canada.
