I want to find my grandparents

My fathers adopted name if Robert Kendrick Goode Sr and he passed away on August 15, 2007. He was born October 4th 1951 and for some unknown reason, was given up. All I know is that his parents were English majors in college. I don't want to know why they gave him up, I just want to know who they were, their ancestry, and anything that could help me understand my ancestry. I want to know where my family came from to be able to ell my future children. Doesn't everyone want to know where they came from?
