Tondalaya, I'm assuming is a name that was taken from the name Tondelayo. She was a character in a play, later played by Hedy Lamar in 1942's White Cargo. The character was described as being an "African native girl" but making a film with an African girl was met with criticism so they made the character half egyptian, and half arab. I guess so not to discourage the directors from making the movie, they made the character half African? In the movie she was very beautiful and she seduced the plantation owners. But the name was based on an African character. Still not sure where the name originally came from (since the original play was based on a book) or what it means, but 1942 is as far back as I've found. There are also some b-52 fighter planes named Tondelayo...after Hedy Lamar's character.
