origin of name de Salvo

Posted by Brian de Salvo <bedess@eircom.net> on Thu, 27 Nov 2008, in response to DeSalvo surname origins and meaning????, posted by Georgia De Salvo on Wed, 20 Aug 2008

My father's family did indeed originate in Sicily but lived for generations on the island of Malta. There are assocoiations with the Royal Navy. My father's name was Eric and my Maltese grandfather George. His father was Guiseppe, which seems to be a family name - there is a Guiseppe listed in Lymington, Hampshire, England in the 19th century (d 1895). I was born in England (as was my father, his mother was English)and live in the Republic of Ireland. There is a family legend of one of the de Salvos marrying a woman who was half Spanish half French so it's possible we are related.

best wishes

Brian de Salvo
