Rudolph Reinisch, re: Micheele's response

Dear Michelle,

Thank you very much for your reply. Clearly, these are different Rudolph Reinisches, although possibly related.

My grandfather, who was called "Rolf" was Jewish, at least partly. He was born to a Czech (probably Catholic) mother and his father was Josef, and was Jewish. I believe that he was from Pilsen, at that time in Czechoslovakia, but still part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. At least, that is where my mother was born, and where Rolf's mother, Rosa, lived. I don't know if Josef was still alive then.
Rolf was one of a number of brothers and sisters. I'd have to dig out the names.

As I said, he died, of several strokes suffered, following the "Anschluss", or annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany. My mother, her sister, Ruth, and brother, Wolfgang (Wolfie), managed to escape, and emmigrate. My mother first went to England, and some time later, after her first husband joined her, having been released from a concentration camp (it was still early days, and possible to bribe officials), and they later, in '38, or '39, emmigrated to the U.S., where they had been granted permanent visas. Later, my Aunt Ruth, was able to get to America, and they were reunited in New York City, where I grew up. My Uncle Wolfie, got his permanent visa to England, sponsored by an Englishman whom my mother had befriended at the University of Vienna. My father was my mother's second husband, and was American.

Tell me about yourself, and what you know of your family Reinisch history. Perhaps it is a more common name than I knew, originally, I was told, the family was from the Rhineland, and were coin makers, back in history.

Wolfie had two sons, one of whom lives in England, with his American wife, and 2 sons. The other lives near Fulda, in a small town in Germany, with his German wife, and three children.

Sincerely,
Mary McCormick
