Origin of Perez
Posted by Yaron Cortez <benjudahlion@yahoo.com> on Wed, 16 Jan 2008, in response to What does Perez mean?, posted by Priscilla Perez on Sat, 01 Dec 2007
Perez or Peres is an ancient Hebrew Jewish surname (last name). Please see below a piece of a book that I am writting on the Hebrew Hispanic History and the meaning of Hispanic Surnames.Abraham begat Isaac (one of many boys), and Isaac
begat Jacob (the twin to Esau) (later changed to
Israel), and Jacob/Israel begat Judah (one of 12 boys,
known as the twelve tribes of Israel), and Judah begat
Perez (also a twin)(B'resheet (Genesis)38:29),
(Nacham'yah (Nehemiah) 11:4)(also spelled Pharez).
Which has always been a common Hispanic surname (last
name). Perez is also one of the great grandfathers of King David of Israel. Here's a list of fathers and their sons as recorded in the book of Rut(Ruth) 4:18-22; note that it says,"Now these are the generations of Pharez:" (pronounced "Perez" the "h" is silent, also spelled "Perez", (Nacham'yah (Nehemiah) 11:4). Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel, Judah, Perez, Hezron, Ram, Nashon, Salmon, Boaz, Obed, Jesse and finally King David. Hope this helps. I welcome all comments.
