found some old family photos

i was gonig through some of my grandfathes(thomas ryan) thing and found some news paper articals and photos of a 18 year old boy named "lafe" schaefer and it sounds like him and his friend clint cooper hiked from detriot to california in 1926. i asked everyone in my family but no one knows how this lafe schaefer is but he looks exactly like me and my grand father. so i throught it might be my grate grandfarther but my grand father was an orphan. i would like to know if this man lafa could be my grate grand father. and if i have family that i didn't know i had
