We are Basque, I am Texan

Posted by Josefa H. Zatarain <joziusa@yahoo.com> on Tue, 10 Jul 2007, in response to i also live in ny, posted by yoli on Thu, 18 Aug 2005

My mom is Zatarain, she is 87 and still has a sharp mind and excellent memory. We are Basque, Spanish,to Mexico and into the USA through CA then onto Texas. In Mexico was where their mother (that would be great grand parents)remained.
My mom's dad (Ezequiel Zatarain) died when she was a child in Hondo,TX...he was a train engineer with Southern Pacific. He had several brothers(all Master Plumbers)that moved to San Antonio, TX in early 1900's. That facilitated my mom being able to come to San Antonio. Now a bunch of us are in San Antonio, but all my great uncles have passed; and my mom is full of info and stories.

With some encouragement via emails I can be convinced to follow up with many stories. Incidentally, it is my brother that started this Zatarain inquiry; maybe he should visit mom more often (haha, heehee, just kidding Adolfo). It's as Raymond Zatarain said in another response to our "primos hermanos" lets communicate. Incidentaly - family respect, sharing, and caring is what has been the Zatarain' legacy and the most admirable and enduring of our families' characteristics. We also all have a very particular sense of humor, are very artistic, and charismatic.
Y si, hablamos espanol.

Jozi Zatarain
