Wythes of Droitwich

Dear Graham,Yes, I have the genealogy that goes back to Geoffrey Wythe, born in 1250. How interesting that so many people seem to have it!
I am descended from Joseph Henry Wythe (1797 - 1847 ) + Mary Chamberlain. I have the story of their voyage to the America from my Aunt Phyllis Wythe Karsten (San Jose, CA), who has done quite a bit of genealogical research.
Evidently, there was a tax revolt in western England, which was not all that uncommon. People in western England, near the Welsh border, evidently don't feel much rapport with London.
My ancestors decided to flee and go to America, so they packed up and went to Manchester to take a ship to American.
Everything was stowed aboard the ship before my great-great-grandmother saw it. When she did, she absolutely refused to board it. She told my great-great-grandfather, "You can board that ship, but I and my children aren't going."
So, they finally had to unload all the Wythe family possessions off the ship, and it sailed away without them.
And was never seen again.
When my aunt tried to verify this old family story with Lloyd's of London, they told her that all their records had been destroyed in the blitz.
So, I can't verify this story for you.
I hope someday to visit the church in Droitwich, though. My aunt says that the old family home there is no longer owned by the Wythe family, but that the family that owns the home lets people from the Wythe family visit it. Do you know if that's true or not?
Thanks and peace,
Hajja Romi Wythe Elnagar
