Scothern Family
Posted by Dorothy <billweaver@supanet.com> on Thu, 16 Jun 2005, in response to SCOTHERN FAMILY, posted by CRAIG SCOTHERN on Tue, 08 Mar 2005
My Father was John William Scothern born in 1906 at Woolley Moor near Clay Cross. There are quite a few relatives around there. His father was Samuel Scothern (married to Elizabeth Bowmer), and his father was Philip Scothern who died in the Parkhouse Colliery disaster in 1882. Philip moved to this area with some brothers ( we think one was Alfred and another Joseph) probably from Lambley Nottingham, to work at the Clay Cross Company pits, founded by Stephenson, who was responsible for the development of this area and workers flooded in for a better living.Dot Weaver nee Scothern
