Nationality

Hi,
My mum is always saying that i don't look very English and that i could pass for a Latina, french girl or something exotic. I was just wondering how i can trace my ancestors back. I've tried a lot of websites already and they aren't very helpful. I want to trace back a few decades or centuries to find out where i am from, if you understand what i mean. My mum says on her families side there could be French and Irish. On my dad's side everyone and i mean everyone has dark hair and eyes; including me. We all look like something exotic like Hawaiian or Spanish. I was just wondering how i could find out more about this?
