Chawner clan

Hi,
As you can see my name is Michael Chawner too.
My family is from the Stoke on Trent area, at least that is where most of them live now.
I have family in Australia too, a couple of my dad's brothers emigrated 40 years ago.
I have a different background story to the Chawners. Acoording to one of those family tree firms, the name Chawner derives from an vocational name associated with blanket makers that originally came from Yorkshire. The name goes back to the 12th 13th centuary. The blankets were called Chalons and the makers of the blanket were called Chaloners of which our name is a derivative.
How big is your family group in Newcastle.
