Just tell me!!

Okay, I know that the name Garner is Latin it comes from Granaria and granary(latin) most sites tell me it's latin and then others say british , german and french but my family says that they all stole it from rome. Garner means to accumulate or it refers to someone who works in a granary. Would you agree?
