Simon and Elizabeth Atkins Matthews
Posted by Vicki Ishler Matthews <Redwhitebaby@aol.com> on Mon, 26 Jul 2004, in response to Elizabeth Atkins Matthews, posted by Anne on Wed, 22 Jan 2003
Hello, my husband descends fr James Henderson Matthews. There is a James Matthews mentioned in the will of Simon that I believe is James Henderson Matthews b. abt 1819 or 1820. Another searcher years back asked me about your Barbara Matthews McLeod, but at the time I knew even less than I do now about this family. Of late though,I am wondering if my James and your Barbara are siblings? Do you know if Simon and Elizabeth ever lived for a short time out of the state of NC and then returned? This would have a great deal to do w/figuring out if Simon is the father of my James. I've heard an oral history that James was born either in GA or in Ala...and I've come across others who found census records that might support that they did live out of NC for a time, along with one of Simon's brothers and family. My James Henderson Matthews d. in early 1900's (I've found 2 differing dates) and is buried nr Angier NC. Have you seen the 1997 posting by JoAnn Bradford Garrett about the McLeod Family of Lawrence Co Arkansas (http://www.couchgenweb.com/family/mcleod.htm)?This is a recorded oral history about Barbara Matthews McLeod and Murdock McLeod after they moved to Arkansas.Responses
