the name Etherton means:

Posted by David Etherton <detherton@bellsouth.net> on Sun, 04 Jul 2004, in response to Your name means, posted by Rudy Gazetti on Fri, 23 Apr 2004

My grandmother always said that it mean "spring farm", meaning a farm or land holding that had its own source of spring water. I have traced the name back to James Etherton, who came to America in 1715, from St. Brides (or St. Bridges)on the southeast coast of Wales, although by having an English name, he obviously was not Welsh. Hope this helps.
