friend's last name

Posted by Arthur <bl_shadow@hotmail.com> on Fri, 04 Jun 2004, in response to last name origins, posted by Oscar de Los Rios Llinas on Wed, 03 Dec 2003

Yesterday after talking to my friend, i realized that he has a peculiar family background. Nobody knew his grandparents! Here's why,

Apparently, my friend's grandfather landed on an island in the caribbean running away from a war or something. He and his companions stayed in the island, since it was desolated, peaceful and quiet. Unfortunately, life isn't that sweet forever. One day, a crew of people landed in the island and massacre all the inhabitants with no traces, nor reasons for such actions.

This story was told by my friend's father who was 5 years old at that time; therefore, leaving him nothing but a surname as the only clue to his roots..... "Zantarin".

It appears to be a very unusual last name, any help on the origins of it would be very much appreciated. I am hoping that i did not mistype his last name, but i will check with him today or monday. Thank you!

Arthur
