Szillat

Posted by Dona Olsen <kadona@networld.com> on Wed, 10 Dec 2003, in response to Szillat spelling, posted by Mike Szillat on Wed, 10 Dec 2003

Hello,
I just received your response to my querry posted on
Genealogy Forum.com. I would be very interested to
hear more from you. My grandffather was JOHANN SCHILLAT.
His father was CHRIST SCHILLAT. His father was born in
Germany, but his mother came from Prussia. The spelling
of her name(taken from my Grandfather's marraige licence)
is uncertain. It was ANNA M. ENDRJAT or HENDREAT. My
grandfather Johann, married ANNA MASKET or MESCHCOTT, who
was supposedly from East Prusian heritage. The duel
spelling is a hard thing to deal with. My grandfathers
citizenship papers show JOHANN SCHILLAT. My mothers
marraige licence shows SZILLAT. My Grandmother's head
stone reads ANNA SZILLAT. I have been trying to find away to gather any information on them but so far all I
have been able to learn is that The town they came from
GALBRASTEN(Ithink that's right)and the words TILLSIT RAGSIT
or RAGSILT, and that all records would now be in Polland
and it would be impossible to get any thing from there
Do you think you could help me?

Ever so Greatful

Dona
