Tracing Father
Posted by Brian Burgess <BurgessBenbee@aol.com> on Mon, 20 Oct 2003
Am endeavouring to trace history of my father, believed to beRichard Burgess born Aug 11th 1868. Known to have served in the Royal Navy in South Africa during Boer War as gunner on armoured trains. Also said to have been on HMS Lion at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. Last heard of in Lee-on-Solent,Hants in 1950 where he was living at 20,Raynes Road.Belived to have married Caroline Broad sometime in the 1940s.Previous to this lived with my mother Florence Ingram at 22, Raynes Road -she died during the 1930s.Have tried Royal Navy records- no reply - also British Legion at Lee on Solent - he was caretaker at Legion Hall for a while. I have had no contact since 1950s. Any help or advice to trace his roots will be welcome. Thank you. .Responses
