My father the late Richard Rojkowski was plant superintendent for Metz in the 60s up in till the company closed in 71 or 72? as a little kid I walked all the floors to the plant. I would like to purchase the book by Jerry however is it a history of the company?

I do not know of a book by Jerry, i know he had a longtime column in a national furniture magazine. You can find it using "Google."
I am JL Metz's grandaughter and Jerry's niece.

  The building is still standing in Hammond it was a furnitute storage house. I live in MANHATTAN iL. ABOUT 45 miles from Hammond . My family lived in Calumet City for many years right next to Hammond. My Mother still has pictures of the plant in its hayday do you have pictures or a history of the plant and pictures? As I sit here next to me is a Metz dresser given to me by my mother for her grandson to keep his clothes in. Also upon the plants closing my father Richard was given a chinet cabinet 7ft tall with lights that is a fabulous and full of my mothers dishes and treasures that I will inherit some day . If you have a history or pictures of the plant please let me know

    I came upon your website while researching Metz furniture and found your Uncle Jerry's information most interesting.
    We own a Metz dining room grouping (table, chairs, server) that is a highlight of our home. We were looking for additional chairs but nobody seems to be selling any Metz belongings! Ours is about 40 years old and a cousin who was an interior designer in Chicago helped to select it. A side note is that her husband, along with being a Professor of Architectural Engineering at IIT in Chicago, was also either the President or the Editor of the North American Woodworking Assn (I may not have the name accurately but it is close) and may have met your Uncle, i.e., the connection, along with her own judgement of quality furniture.
    It is said to have learned of what the subsequent owners did to diminish the quality and reputation of the company until its demise.
    Still, the name "Metz" on furniture always elicits a favorable response and we have enjoyed the pieces we have over many decades.
    Is anyone in your family still in the furniture business?

      My auction house is selling a complete JL Metz dining set August 25 2008. 4 side chairs, 2 arm chairs, dining table with 2 leaves, marble topped server with hutch, and teacart. While the set is great quality, there is a debate here about the design - I think it is great, others think it is awkward. The photos will be posted at

      I have six dining chairs by J.L. Metz (1969) Two arm and four side chairs. They are yellow and white, french provincial?

    My mother recently puchased a beautiful set J.L. Metx of Chicago, table, six chairs, buffet & hutch cabinet. She is unable to make fit into her home. She is looking for more history on the design. It is blonde colored with glass buffet door with and lion heads knods is the a trdemark? Does anyone know?

    I don't know anything about the J.L. Metz furniture. But I was hoping you could help me. I have a 7" tall china cabinet for sale. But now I am curious. If you log on to tulsacraigslist.com I have posted a picture of my china cabinet. Posting ID: 814300549 It is lighted and has glass shelves, and the glass in doors and side are beveled. Would appreciate any info. Thanks, Norma Jean
