LEO

Posted by TJ <MERRYCAT86@AOL.COM> on Sat, 07 Apr 2001

I am really trying to get some information regarding my great grandfather Harry "Leontyne" Leo. He was born in Los Angeles 10/02/1875. He had a twin sister, but I do not know her name. His mother was Anna Thompson Leo and his father was Caspar Leo. I have run into dead-ends on every lead. I know he was married in 1902 to Jewel Smith in Kansas City, KS and they traveled to,and took up residence in, San Francisco that same year. I believe they had two daughters, but I have no confirmation of that. He always said his first wife and children were killed in the earthquake of 1906. His name on the marriage certificate was "Harry Adonis" and I assume that is the name under which he was married, although to my knowledge, that was not his legal name. It is possible his wife and children from his first marriage carried the name of Adonis rather than Leo.
I have record of him living in Michigan and then later in life, Syracuse and upstate New York. He married my great grandmother, Sarah Long Kline Leo in 1907 in Auburn, NY.
I have been told that his birth records were destroyed in a fire, but that was in San Luis Obispo, CA and since that time I received a copy of his second marriage license which lists his place of birth as Los Angeles. He died in 1934, before Social Security, so there are no SS records for him.
If anyone has any knowledge or is willing to do any research in the LA area, please email me.

Thanks in advance!
TJ
