Thank you so much. I was aware of the existence of the articles. In fact, I believe the Dowagiac newspaper ran a series of them every day for the entire length of his trip. In case you are wondering, he did complete his journey and he did get married and win the bet. My mother has a photo of him standing in front of a hardware store (one of his sponsors)in Dowagiac with his wheelbarrow just before he began the trip. I've been trying to get copies of those articles for almost three years. The library in Dowagiac will not copy them for me because they don't have the manpower and they have refused to do an inter-library loan of their microfilms to the library in the city where I live so I haven't been able to get them. It's my mother's dearest wish to have these, but short of driving to Michigan myself, I don't know how else to get them. If you find out anything at all I will really be grateful to you!!!
