Adam JACOBS of Germany to PA 1844, then IL & OH

Posted by S.A. Jones <lotusmagic@gmail.com> on Sun, 07 Sep 2008

My Jacobs family immigrated from Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany on the ship "Goethe," from Bremen to Baltimore in Sept. 1844. Individuals below are related, tho some are from Adam's previous marriage(s), others may be nieces. Family lore says they were Jewish in Germany, Christian in USA. They settled in Antrim, Franklin Co. PA. Some later migrated elsewhere. Brackets are mine.

Adam Jacobs, 52, Shoemaker [b. 1792, Backnang, Baden-Wuertemburg, Germany]
wife Carlote, 32 [Charlotte b. abt. 1812]
Bernhardt, 25 [aka Barnaby,Barney,Bernard,Benjamin > IL]
Margrethe, 20 [b. abt. 1824, aka Margaret, Maggie]
Maria (b. 1829, aka Mary Anna > IL]
Johannes, 12 [b. abt. 1832, aka John > Huntingdon Co., PA]
Nicolaus, 8 [b. abt. 1836, aka Nicholas > IL]
Adam, 1 [b. 1843 > Ashtabula Co., OH]

If these look like they could be your Jacobs ancestors,
contact me at the email address below and let's compare notes.
