meaning of Przemyslaw

Posted by Przemyslaw <peter.nicewicz@yale.edu> on Sat, 10 Dec 2005, in response to meaning of Przemyslaw, posted by Przemyslaw on Sun, 27 Nov 2005

My name is Przemyslaw too, although I go by Peter, since it is my middle name and is more universal. Przemyslaw is a Polish name, which stems from two root words - przemysl, meaning industry and slawa, meaning fame. Thus, Przemyslaw literally means productive (or industrious) and famous. As for the English translation, I was not able to locate one and I don't think that one exists. Since the name is not Latin based and rather based on two very Polish-specific words, I assume that name only exists in Poland.
