Meaning of Przemyslaw

Sorry I can't help on the actual name itself. But you might bear in mind that many immigrants to USA etc. were asked what their name was, often could not write it down in those days, and the English-speaking scribe made a guess. This could mean two things, one being that the surname was something else, and the scribe made a guess at the spelling as being Pr-zemy-slaw, or else, the name was correctly spelled,in which case another "relative" of yours could have been written down as Premslow, Premshaw ,or other variations, depending on the accent of the speaker and if said fast or slowly. As evidence of what I mean, look at common USA surnames like Yoakum, Yokum.and similar...that happened when the immigrant said his name was Joachim...how do you spell it ?...I don't know....and the scribe knew it sounded like Yokum, and that's what the family became. Try checking the internet records of whatever country your family heritage is from. Good luck. By the way,my ancestors include mainly Anglo-Celtic names, and even there, Nolan was written as Nowlan, Perrotte as Parrott,Pike as Pic,Pik,Pyke, Corbin as Corban,Corben,Corbun, and many others even more jumbled. At least your surname has a good excuse. Ward.Responses
