Shine Vs Shyne

Posted by M Shyne <mpdshyne@hotmail.com> on Thu, 08 Sep 2005

My name is Michael Shyne, I'm from Dublin. My fathers family is from Co Limerick and used the name Shyne. Shyne or Shine is a munster name. Its a small clan. The name in Irish is spelled O Seighin which pronounces pretty much as the English version. The use of the 'y' is an Anglicisation of the name. Most families use the 'i' version. Other versions in Irish include 'Sheehan' and 'Sheehy'. Most families used similar Chistian names thus , my grand uncle Jack Shyne went to Chicago in the early 1900's. William Paddy and John/James/ Michael are 'de-riguer'

Rgds to all

M Shyne

Hope that helps
