Doherty from Charlestown, Mayo
Posted by Cindy <cynthiaweaver@webtv.net> on Tue, 05 Nov 2002, in response to variations on the Doherty name., posted by Michael Doherty on Sun, 03 Nov 2002
Michael,
I read with interest your post about the Doherty name. I supposedly have a cousin named Michael D. still living (last we heard, many years ago) in Mayo. I have done lots of research into the history of Ireland and, even so, learned much from your posting. I had no idea that your name was THAT common in your area.
Putting out a general inquiry for Michael Doherty in Co. Mayo would be like asking for Mary Smith here in the states (coincidentally, Mary Smith was my grandmother's married name - she was born a Doherty).
Enjoyed reading your contribution to this message board.
Peace,
Cindy (age 48)
