Baldwin Family
Posted by Anna Fern <anna@bluelagoon.co.uk> on Sat, 05 Mar 2005
I am trying to trace the Baldwin Family who originated from Cork County, Ireland around 1840's. My great grand mother was Dorothy Elizabeth Baldwin born aprox 1844. She met and fell in love with the gardener who worked on the family’s estate in Cork and they eloped and married in 1867 in Bristol. On her marriage certificate it says her father is a Henry Baldwin Captain in the army. I can't trace him in the military records or Dorothy in the Irish baptism records so i fear that their first names could well have been changed. Does anyone’s Baldwin families originate from Cork Ireland ? Or does anyone have any old photographs of the Baldwin family in Cork dated around 1860 as this may give me some clues? Or do you recognize the story as a local tale as it must have been such a scandal in those days? Finally can anyone point me in the direction of old school records or even work records for some of the Baldwin houses and estates.Responses
