McGranes in Wisconsin

Posted by Rose DeRocher <rkkd123@aol.com> on Sun, 27 Feb 2005, in response to James McGrane, posted by Eldora Gentzler on Fri, 12 Sep 2003

My husband's great grandparents were John McGrane and Mary Rooney, they lived in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. John McGrane was born March 2, 1827 in Ireland (maybe County Cork), John's parents were James McGrane and Ann Daggett. Ann (Daggett) McGrane came to SW Wisconsin with her children after her husband (James McGrane) was killed in a mining accident in New Jersey (thought to be Dover as some McGrane children were born there). James McGrane was born about 1799 and died before 1862 (when Ann and children came to Wisconsin from New Jersey). The children I have listed for James and Ann (Daggett) McGrane are: John (husband's great grandfather), Margaret McGrane married William Sherwin; Ann McGrane(born abt 1826) married Patrick Galagan/Galligan; James McGrane (born June 15, 1833)possibly married Bridget Ryan and William McGrane possibly married Catherine Ryan.
