Nembhards of Jamaica

Posted by Jay Nembhard <pneumatikos2003@yahoo.co.uk> on Sun, 13 Feb 2005, in response to Looking for Nembhards too!, posted by Monisha Nembhard on Tue, 11 Jan 2005

Hello Nembhards world over.

According to the Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, the word 'Nembhard' is Germanic in origin and comes from the words 'nemen' which means 'to take' and 'hard' which means 'strong'. It can mean either a greedy person or someone striving for more. I would personally favour the latter although when I was young people used to call me 'nyam hard'.

What do you guys think, huh?
