Hines Blackfoot Heritage
Posted by Heather Hines <hhines27@yahoo.com> on Thu, 13 Jan 2005, in response to finding my blackfoot tribe hertiage, posted by cheryl hines on Sun, 02 Jan 2005
Dear Cheryl,How unusual it was to see your posting about Blackfoot ancestry among the Hines family, as I have been told that I have Blackfoot ties. I am just as baffled about it as you seem to be.
According to family lore, our branch of the Hines family came down through Canada, and someone intermarried with a Blackfoot woman who was known among us as "Mom Hines", who was the mother of my grandfather, Cyril Hines.
It has been rumored that this occurred out in Montana in the early years of the 20th century. This branch of the family later migrated to California, where my father, Timothy Hines, was born.
Although I do not have any overtly Blackfoot physical features, perhaps my strongest connection to the tribe is my deep and abiding love of horses. I have an almost instinctive knowledge of and passion for horses, and especially for those wild mustangs and "buffalo runners" most commonly associated with the tribe.
Should you have any information that you might wish to pass on to me in this connection, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at your convenience. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Heather
