Burke/Ridgeway indian Heritage

Posted by Beverly (Ridgeway)Smith <katymae42@yahoo.com> on Sat, 22 May 2004, in response to My Indian Name, posted by Andrea Marie White on Sun, 18 Jan 2004

My father has indian on both sides of his parents family. On his mother's side his great grandmother was full blooded inidan and her last name was Burke and I believe she was either from W. Virginia or Kentucky, she married a Hewlett. My dad father's said they had indian in them (my father has jet black hair and the indian features) but he wasn't for sure where at. My father's Grandfather's name was Newton Ridgeway and he married a Nancy Maggard. I would appreciate any help in helping me trying to find out about either side or both sides of his family. My dad said he thought someone once mention they thought they were cherokee on the Burke side but I can't seem to find out for sure.
