Hello Michael,Perhaps this information will help. In 1901 a general census of Ireland was conducted and the records from Clare have been made available through the internet by the Clare County Library:

Do you know the name of your great grandfather and grandmother? Were they named John and Catherine McTigue? If your grandfather was a cousin of my uncle (1923 world champion light-heavyweight, Mike McTigue)
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/people/mike_mactigue.htm
it is possible that they lived near one another in Kilnamona.
Take a look at the families listed under the Electoral Division Kilnamona, Townland Leckaum – do any of the names sound familiar?
The first McTigues listed are my grandparents Patrick and Ellen* (Neylon) McTigue, their children Mary (Rynne), John, Katie (Breen), Michael (the boxing champion) and Maggie. Unlisted younger siblings are Martin, (my father) James and (his twin) Patrick, Thomas and Helen/Ellen? (Smith).
The second set of McTigues are John and Catherine with children Thos, Mary, James***, nephew John. The last McTigues listed are Michael, his mother Bridget and his sister Mary. I’m unsure if these three McTigue families are related, however given the population density they must have been grand friends! It’s also possible that the Rynnes listed at the top of the Kilnamona census are the inlaws of my aunt Mary McTigue Rynne.
My dear cousins Cecilia Santora (Mike McTigue’s granddaughter) and Debra McTigue (granddaughter of Mike’s brother Patrick) have also posted to this forum. Cecilia has visited Kilnamona and is in contact with additional family members. Perhaps the remaining posters are distant relations – the McTigue (Irish?) fondness for naming sons Michael, James and Patrick make mapping these family trees somewhat lively ; - )
Slainte!
Monica
