Doherty Clan of Charlestown

Posted by Patrick <pddqa@yahoo.com> on Sun, 12 Oct 2003, in response to Doherty's, posted by Stephen Mulloy on Sun, 12 Oct 2003

Hello, Stephen. I am not sure if that Denis Doherty and son/grandson Thomas are related to me. I have a hunch they are related to the Dohertys of Lurga who live adjacent to my cousins. They have a store/post office that says "TJ Doherty" on the sign. Each of these two families claims that the one is not related to the other, but I really can't believe that somewhere back they aren't in fact related. The TJ Doherty store is across a small lane from my great-great-great grandfather Seamus O'Doherty's first property, so it seems quite likely that the folks across the lane with the same surname might have been his brother, cousins, etc.... Anyway, I think there was a Denis Doherty in their family, according to Griffith's Valuation in the 1850's....so that may be your "tribe." I'll ask my cousin Padraic O'Doherty whom I email frequently to see if he can figure out your connection. Patrick
