Briggs

Posted by Katherine Briggs McBride <kmcbride21@yahoo.com> on Sun, 28 Mar 2010, in response to Possible Briggs lead?, posted by Frances Morris (Briggs) on Tue, 10 Aug 2004

Have you ckecked any passages from New York to Austraiia?
Our Briggs came over with William Penn (a Quaker) in 1682.
Most of my Briggs family stayed with in that vicinity. There is even a tiny village of Briggsville in Luzerne Co PA. My g.father & his father came to the Omaha, NE area to be carpenters,a Dr. & my dad had several gravel trucks.

I have heard of Briggs going to Barbados & up in Plymouth, but nothing of Austraila. Briggs is suppose to be an English name meaning Bridge. In 1200's or so, it was spelled Brig or Brigg. Haven't heard of of Irish Briggs.
