Shaloo

I have been interested in this discussion ... and the link to France is compelling. I for one never understood how we could have gone from O'Sealbhaigh (even if it is pronounced O Shalvey) to Shaloo... but the path from Shalleau to Shaloo is pretty easy to imagine. One question for all ... how do you pronounce your surname? My father, John Patrick Shaloo, Jr, and his father, JPS, Sr, both said SHAY low (both long vowel sounds/accent on first syllable) ... and so my brother, JPS III, my sister, and I and all of our children follow them. The rest of my father's siblings and all of their children say sha LOO (no long vowels, accent on second syllable).
My great-grandfather, James Joseph Shaloo, was born in the early 1900s on the Lower East Side in NYC, but my father has memories of hearing him talk of family in Galway (tho' my father did at times embroider his stories, and I have often wondered if what he heard was that his great-grandparents sailed from Galway).
There are Shaloo families in and around NYC/NJ and also in Ohio. There are also Shalloo families in NJ and a few Shalloes here and there.
Interesting to have confirmation of the apparent ... that we are all connected in some way.
