Toner, Malin, Ireland

Posted by Barbara Toner <barkko@comcast.net> on Fri, 25 Sep 2009, in response to NB Toners, posted by Margaret Toner on Tue, 15 Sep 2009

My husband, Paul is a great grandson of John Toner (dob c. 1814). John was a blacksmith in Malin Village and lived on The Green before he and his wife & children emigrated to the US. He came to Wilmington, Delaware about 1863-1866, was a blacksmith here too as well as were several of his sons. From info. that I've been sharing with Neil & Bill it seems most probable that John was a brother of the Toners who emigrated to NB.
Paul & I, along with his sister & a cousin went to Malin Village in 2002. He & I went again in 2003. The Toner house was still standing, vacant after the death of Packie Joe in July, 1982. We talked with some of the townspeople who remembered him fondly. We also found his gravesite not far from the village.
Since Neil has ties to Malin Village & to Packie Joe & Bill seems to be related to him thru Alphonse it could be that there is a distant definite relationship. Small world!!
I'm now looking for 2 others, Edward (Ned) & James who left Ireland in the early 1900's for New York & Massachussetts.
I'd be happy to hear from you & share what we have.

Barbara
