Honora O'Flynn

Posted by Mary E. Johnson <tuiren@aol.com> on Sun, 30 Aug 2009, in response to Honor O'Fynn, posted by Betsey on Wed, 13 Feb 2008

I was intrigued by your post, as I was born and raised in Louisville, KY, and also a descendant of Honora O'Flynn and William Logsdon, through the Durbin line (my grandmother in Louisville, Mary Olga Durbin-Springgate, and my mother, Mary Jo Springgate-Moore). My aunt did a great deal of research on the Springgate / Durbin / Logson line, including finding a copy of the "Durbin and Logsdon Geneology with Related Families, 1626 - 1991", compiled by Betty Jewel Durbin Carson, which states: "The story told was that three Logsdon brothers named William, Joseph, and Daniel came to this country in the 17th century and that one of those brothers married a beautiful Irish girl named Honor O’Flynn, who was a captive from the coast of Ireland. It seems that the fact of William Logsdon marrying an Honor is more than just coincidence, and it is accepted until proved otherwise, as fact, that William Logsdon married Honor O’Flynn.” (Pg.10)

Also, “It has been stated in several documents that Honora O’Flynn was kidnapped from Ireland (b. County Derry) and married William Logsdon 1702 by a missionary priest from Fort Tobacco, Maryland. The name Honora has been carried down by the Durbin and Logsdon families.” (Pg. 463)

I have been to Ireland, and especially the geneological libraries in Dublin and Tralee, County Kerry, but they have no particular information on Honora O'Flynn, B. 1680 (or 1681). However, I have not yet checked genealogical records for County Derry.

I would be very, very interested in any additional information that might be shed on Honora's family back in Ireland, if you have anything more to add!.
