Tipperary: Malone, Malan, Malane, etc.

I need help in understanding what surname to search for back in Ireland. My g-g-g-gradfather (David "Malane" born c. 1820, Co. Tipperary) came to the U.S. c. 1846. In the 1850 - 1880 U.S. Census schedules he and his sons were listed as:Thanks.
