Cork Dineen

Posted by Tony Dineen <tdineen@biopowerplc.com> on Sat, 07 Mar 2009, in response to Dineen/Deneen Family Cork/Kerry, posted by Matthew Dineen on Mon, 21 Mar 2005

I find your posts very interesting. Im Tony Dineen, living in Mid-Cork in South Ireland.

There are several dineen families living in my own parish but many of us aren't related. My farther's decentents are all from north west county Cork going back 100 years. They came from the Cork/Kerry boarder area before that at about 1850.

Originally the Dineen or Dynan/Dinane name was of County Limerick origin but many travelled and settled in north and mid-west Cork where they were pricipally poets and antiquitans to the McCarthy and Sullivan clans.

Going back to around 1600 the Dinane or Dinan name derived from the Brittany area of France and Belgium. The City of Dinan was thought to be the area of first records.

Any confirmation or ammendment to this would be appreciated.
Tony Dineen.
